My Life Line in Media

so far, that is.

I was feeling nostalgic. These are TV shows, movies, musicals, songs, artists and books I've loved over the course of my life thus far. This is when I encountered them, not necessarily when they were released. And though this list is in no way exhaustive, these were the ones that came to mind when I took a mental stroll back over my life. These color my childhood, first heart break, part of my engagement when we were apart, the wedding, moving to Italy, then to Germany, and many, many moments in between. I understand if you must judge me for a couple of these, but there they are anyway.

A thousand points to whomever can name the bands that go with all the songs. I'm certain I've forgotten some favorites, but I think most of them are here. And I know I sometimes listed a song and sometimes a band, but there are reasons for it all, mysterious reasons you'll never know, mwahahahahaha!!!

...mostly because they're boring details that only matter to the person they happened to. You know, me.

What are your favorites of all time?

*** UPDATE ***
I cannot believe I forgot Buffy, movie and series, and The New Kids on the Block, my first concert ever. And all 80s music all over the high school and college years. And The Beach Boys during childhood. I'll be back in five minutes to add more.

  1. Hey, cool idea!
Though I think I could spend a whole day on compiling my own list. Unless I make it sort of a blitz-exercise - maybe that will weed out my definite favorites.

I'll try tomorrow during my lunch break, if I get one. :-)

  2. What a great list! Some of them surprised me, then some of them had me nodding my head, saying, "Yeah, me too." It would take me a while to compile a list that exhaustive, lol.

    1. ...it was "Toxic," wasn't it? I'm ashamed, but it was on MTV all the time during my short stint in Virginia when I was getting ready for work in the mornings. That and the Hoobastank song are my pieces of VA. I don't necessarily love all the songs, they were just meaningful in memory.

  3. I love your list! If I made my own list, I think I'd have many of the same items on mine. There'd definitely be a lot of old school No Doubt songs and various episodes of Buffy smattered throughout.

    1. I KNEW I forgot something!!! BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER - the movie with Kristy Swanson and PeeWee Herman :) Which totally groomed me for the series with Sarah Michelle Gellar...of which I missed not a single episode :)

    2. If we ever get a chance to meet in person, we're totally putting on Once More, With Feeling and singing our little hearts out together!

  4. Ha ha... Good idea.
I had a hardcore roommate named Andy, who used to play black metal music and scream core music all day long (to the rest of the house's chagrin), but I would wake up at 3am and walk into the living room and see him crying to Truly, Madly, Deeply. You never broke up with an awkward boy in Portland to that song, did you?

  5. Awesome, some good stuff on that list. Brings back memories of my own! I just found a 90's "alternative" station that puts me right back in high school, good stuff!

  6. Great exercise, Linz. I put it on my list to try. Mine will surely include "Disco Duck" and Dark Shadows (which I wasn't allowed to watch), Little Women and Romeo and Juliet (the Franco Zeffirelli version from 1968).
